Aliyah quiz
What is your situation?
Choose the situation that matches yours to find out which documents to prepare.
I am Jewish
Is your mother Jewish? Her certificate of Jewishness (or yours) is enough to prove your connection to Judaism. Add a birth certificate and a criminal record extract, contact the Jewish Agency’s Global Center… and you’re on your way to Israel!
I am Jewish through conversion
Your conversion must have been carried out properly by a recognised Beth Din and validated by the Consistoire. Check its validity with the Consistoire, then, like everyone else, call the Global Center: they are waiting for you.
I have Jewish ancestors
Is your father or one of your grandparents Jewish? Ask the Consistoire for your ancestor’s certificate of Jewishness and for a birth certificate showing parentage. Then go to the Global Center with your birth certificate and criminal record extract.
I am married to a Jewish person
You have the same rights as your spouse. As they say: for better and for worse!
I am not Jewish but want to convert in Israel
You will need to find a conversion centre in Israel. On a tourist visa you can attend the classes of your choice, but you will have to leave the country every 3 months to renew your visa. Note: the conversion must be validated by the Beth Din. After converting, you must wait one year before you can become an oleh. A committee can be asked to speed up the file.
I am not Jewish, but I am interested in Israel
If you want to live in or visit Israel without plans to join the Jewish people, ask the embassy about programmes between your country and Israel: work, humanitarian aid, university studies… or simply a lovely holiday.
About Aliyah
Practical questions
Pre-Aliyah information is often a real muddle. Our goal: help you build and submit your file as quickly as possible, without stress.
Who issues the Teudat Oleh?
The Jewish Agency. If you go through the Global Center, they take care of everything, and you receive your Israeli ID card at the airport.
I am already in Israel and haven’t prepared my file
If you put your file together in Israel, the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration will support you; for anything else, you will be referred to the Ministry of the Interior.
Does the Israeli embassy issue the Teudat Oleh?
No. The embassy issues passports to people born to Israeli parents, as well as the various visas.
Arriving with the Jewish Agency
You are entitled to the absorption basket, your flight and a taxi to your new town, and a choice between six months in an absorption centre (merkaz klita) or rent assistance. Benefits vary by profile.
Arriving with the Keren Layedidout
The Keren Layedidout supports the Aliyah of French-speaking families with extra help on top of the absorption basket: flight and extra luggage, integration grants, employment support, help for pregnant women. In partnership with Go-Galil, it will be happy to help you make Aliyah. [Check the Keren Layedidout’s current benefits]
Arriving on my own
Started your file with the Jewish Agency but the call of the land is stronger? Take a plane with your documents and finalise your file directly at the Ministry of Aliyah.
Which region should I choose?
Choosing a region is hard: which place best suits my family, my lifestyle, work, housing, education? Stop hesitating and come home, to a lively, open and green town, 20 minutes from the country’s finest beaches: Karmiel!
Bonus: the Galilee and the Negev offer grants and training on top of the absorption basket.
